Series background & context
Puckboys lives in the bright, messy world of the NHL, where the Queer Collective of out and questioning players are slowly taking over the league. Every book centres on a new couple, but the same core group of friends and teammates keep showing up, dragging each other into trouble and back out again.
The series kicks off with Egotistical Puckboy, where loud, unapologetically out winger Ezra and tightly controlled rival Anton turn their long running feud into a secret, scorching fling that neither of them is supposed to want. Irresponsible Puckboy shifts to a best friends to lovers story, as Tripp finally reaches his limit after years of pining for his oblivious teammate Dex and a very questionable Vegas decision throws their friendship and careers into chaos.
In Shameless Puckboy, a CCTV scandal forces wild child Oskar into image rehab with Lane, the straight laced PR manager who moves into his spare room and refuses to let him coast on charm. Foolish Puckboy gives a divorced former player a second chance at happiness with a firefighter who has no interest in hockey at all, while Clueless Puckboy pairs an awkward rookie nursing a mortifying injury with the patient trainer assigned to get him back on the ice.
Later books push into even more complicated territory. Bromantic Puckboy plays with bi awakenings and the thin line between teammates and something more, Forbidden Puckboy tackles the oldest brothers best friend crush you should not act on, and Possessive Puckboy hands a former bully his comeuppance in the form of a new team owner who remembers exactly how high school felt.
Even when the stakes are big contracts, championships, the fear of being outed the overall tone stays fun and sexy. There are running jokes, wild group chats, and an underlying insistence that queer joy belongs in sports. The books also make room for different identities and experiences, from long term closeting to messy public breakups and players figuring out that labels can change.
Because ongoing friendships and off ice arcs build across the series, it is worth reading Puckboys in order from Egotistical Puckboy onward. Each romance stands on its own, but starting at the beginning lets you catch all the cameos, callbacks and slow burn background threads that make the Queer Collective feel like a real, very chaotic family.
