Series background & context
The Psy-Changeling series begins with a brilliant split at its center: the Psy are a race of powerful telepaths and telekinetics who have spent a century under a protocol called Silence, cutting away emotion in order to stop madness and violence. The changelings live at the other extreme, fully emotional, deeply physical, and fiercely loyal to pack. Humans sit between them, often underestimated, but never unimportant. That tension powers everything.
It starts with Slave to Sensation, where Sascha Duncan, a Psy woman hiding dangerous feeling, collides with leopard alpha Lucas Hunter. What looks like one forbidden romance quickly opens into a much bigger story about murder, control, corruption, and the cost of living numb. From there, books like Visions of Heat, Caressed by Ice, and Mine to Possess keep introducing new couples while steadily widening the political and emotional map.
One of the pleasures of the series is that every book has its own romance, but none of them stand completely alone. DarkRiver and SnowDancer become the emotional backbone of the changeling side. On the Psy side, the Council, the Arrows, defectors, empaths, and hidden rebels all keep shifting the ground. Humans and the Human Alliance matter too, especially as the balance of power changes.
Silence is the fault line.
The tone is a smart blend of paranormal romance, futuristic suspense, and pack-centered family drama. Singh can move from psychic warfare to flirtation around a kitchen table without making either feel out of place. Books like Kiss of Snow, Heart of Obsidian, Shield of Winter, and Shards of Hope show how much weight the long arc gathers as old choices come due.
Every love story matters, but so does the war under it.
If you are wondering whether this is a true in-order series, the answer is yes. The emotional payoffs get bigger because the world keeps changing, relationships from older books keep echoing forward, and seemingly minor characters can become central much later on. If you want a paranormal romance series with big feelings, real momentum, and a world sturdy enough to hold dozens of connected stories, Psy-Changeling is the place to start.
