A Proper Facade closes the current set by turning to Mercy Rothschild and the Duke of Harrington, a man so proper he seems almost unreadable. Mercy's plan is to avoid him by steering him toward another woman, which tells you a lot about this series right away: people are always managing appearances, misreading intentions, or trying to outmaneuver courtship. Then feelings show up and wreck the plan.
