Author bio
Pamela M. Kelley lives in the historic seaside town of Plymouth, Massachusetts, just south of Boston and a short drive from Cape Cod, where she grew up. The harbors, beaches, and small New England towns she knows so well show up again and again in her fiction, whether she is writing about Nantucket, Cape Cod, or the neighboring coastal communities.
As a lifelong bookworm, she has always read widely, from women's fiction and contemporary romance to mysteries, thrillers, and cookbooks. That mix shows up in her stories. Many of her novels blend family drama, gentle romance, a little suspense, and plenty of talk about food, from lobster casseroles to Christmas cookies.
Kelley started out writing contemporary romances set in the American West and in small seaside towns, often after hours while working a day job. Early series like the Montana Sweet Western Romances and the River's End Ranch stories let her experiment with second chances, slow-burn relationships, and tight-knit communities where everyone seems to know everyone else's business.
Her breakout came with The Nantucket Inn, the first book in the Beach Plum Cove series about Lisa Hodges, a widow who turns her waterfront home into a bed and breakfast to stay close to her four adult children. Those Nantucket novels found a large audience and went on to appear on national bestseller lists, giving her the freedom to write full time.
Since then she has expanded her fictional map. The Nantucket Restaurant books follow three sisters who inherit a beloved island restaurant and have to figure out how to run it together. Other favorites include The Hotel, set at an exclusive Nantucket resort, and historical novel Gilded Girl, which trades modern beaches for a Gilded Age Manhattan mansion.
In recent years she has also written Cape Cod centered standalones such as The Bookshop by the Bay, The Seaside Sisters, and The Christmas Inn. These novels focus on women at turning points in midlife, daughters and mothers coming home, long friendships, and the comforting routines of bookshops, inns, and neighborhood cafes.
Food is almost a character in its own right in her work. Kelley loves to cook and often slips favorite recipes into the back of her books, from Lazy Lobster Casserole in Six Months in Montana to jam filled treats in her holiday stories. Readers often joke that they finish her novels hungry and ready to try something new in the kitchen.
When she is not plotting new stories, she enjoys quiet routines close to home, from walking along the water to trying out local restaurants and browsing in independent bookstores. She shares her house with Bella, a small rescue cat who has been known to demand attention in the middle of a writing day.
Across all of her series, Kelley returns to a few core themes, including second chances, found family, and the idea that it is never too late to change your life. Whether the setting is a Nantucket inn, a Cape Cod bookshop, a Montana ranch, or a Nashville honky tonk, her novels aim to give readers a few hours in a warm, hopeful world.
