The first book, Trigger, introduces that tension through Poppy Carvene. She is boxed into a choice between an arranged future and military service, and her refusal to quietly accept either one throws her into direct conflict with the shifter power structure. It also throws her toward Godric, one of the men at the top of that world. From there, Origin starts building both its romance arcs and its bigger conspiracy.

Each book shifts the focus to different lead characters, but the series stays tightly connected.

That is one of its strengths. Transcend follows Mina Kramer after she is abducted and then used as bait by Finn Baker. Torment centers on Megan Marshall and the damage done by her father's experiments, alongside Rune Mason's violent charm. Trick brings in Faith Peyton and Alaric Wood through the Marriage Match system, with the series' hidden manipulator still working behind the scenes. Even when the couples change, the city, the cast, and the danger remain linked.

So this is not a clean set of standalones. It is a connected world with recurring characters, ongoing secrets, and a long thread of manipulation running under nearly every relationship. The mystery around who is pulling the strings matters almost as much as the romances themselves.

Tone-wise, Origin sits somewhere between urban fantasy, dystopian romance, and supernatural soap opera. There are corporations, armies, shifters, kidnappings, hidden agendas, and a lot of emotional volatility. The books move fast, and Dawn uses that speed to keep both the romantic tension and the world-level danger in motion.

If you like linked couples, a damaged future, and the feeling that every new relationship is forming under bad conditions for very good reasons, Origin is a strong place to land. It is one of Scarlett Dawn's clearest examples of how much she enjoys mixing desire with control, secrets, and systems built to trap people.
