Series background & context

Nymphs & Trojans is a collaborative sports romance universe built around two fictional pro basketball franchises in Nashville, the women's Nashville Nymphs and the men's Tennessee Trojans. That setup gives the series a lot of room to move. Players, trainers, agents, artists, and people orbiting the teams all have reasons to cross paths, which makes the world feel lively without becoming hard to follow.

Nicole Falls's first entry, Shots Not Taken, shows how flexible the setup can be. Nikolas Verette is a pro basketball player, but Jayde Turner is chasing success in country music. Their story stretches beyond the court while still keeping the sports-world pressure alive. That mix of ambition and romance is a good example of the series at its best. These books care about careers as much as chemistry.

Then Bounce Back brings things closer to the everyday grind of professional sports life. Micaiah Kennedy is dealing with the collapse of one version of her basketball dream and trying to build something new. Victor Covington, a single father and athletic trainer, is responsible for other people's bodies and futures while trying not to lose himself in the process. The result is a romance that feels mature and practical without losing its heat.

Later, Power Forward expands Falls's footprint in the shared world again, this time with a player and a sports agent navigating attraction against a backdrop of career stakes and buried tension. That is one of the strengths of Nymphs & Trojans. Because the universe is broad, the romances do not all have to hit the same note. Some lean harder into sports competition. Some lean into work, reinvention, or family strain. The court is the common ground, not the whole story.

Nashville matters, too. The series uses the city as more than wallpaper. Between music, sports, travel, and public-facing careers, the books carry a sense of motion and visibility. These characters are often being watched, judged, or professionally measured, which raises the pressure on the love stories in useful ways.

If you like Black sports romance with a shared-world feel, this series is a strong pick. Nicole Falls brings warmth, humor, ambition, and plenty of chemistry to her entries, and the larger collaboration gives the books even more texture. Start with Shots Not Taken if you want to see the world open up from the beginning, then follow the line forward to watch the Nashville universe keep expanding.
