Author bio
Molly McAdams grew up in California, and her books still carry some of that mix of sunshine, restlessness, and emotional weather. She now lives in Texas with her husband and daughter, which feels fitting for an author whose stories often move between big feelings and the comforts of home.
Writing was not the plan.
McAdams has said she did not start writing until right before she turned twenty-two. In college, she even failed a creative writing class, and a professor told her she would never have a career in writing. At the time, she says, that seemed fine, because she did not think she wanted one anyway.
Then she started writing, and kept going.
She has also said that many of her books begin as dreams. She pulls in pieces of real life and real conversations too, which may be why even her most dramatic romances still feel rooted in recognizable fears, grief, guilt, jealousy, and the hard work of trusting someone.
Readers first found her through emotional new adult romances like Taking Chances, From Ashes, and Forgiving Lies. Those books helped define the part of her catalog many fans still love most: young characters on the edge of freedom, huge romantic choices, and plots that are never afraid of heartbreak before they reach the happy ending.
Over time, her range widened. Books like Blackbird, Firefly, and Lyric push into romantic suspense and mob-shadowed danger, while stories such as Fix, Whiskey, and Passion show a different side of her work, more small-town family friction, found family, second chances, and women trying to reclaim their lives on their own terms.
She has also built a bibliography full of connected series and companion novels. Some books revisit the same events from a different point of view, some follow side characters into the spotlight, and some widen into linked groups of friends, siblings, and families. That structure is part of the appeal if you like settling into a world and staying there for a while.
What tends to stay the same is the emotional engine. McAdams likes protective love interests, guarded heroines, messy truths, and characters who have to face the past instead of pretending it never happened. Even when the settings change, from college apartments to criminal underworlds to shared houses in Los Angeles, her stories stay focused on the struggle to earn a hard-won happy ending.
Away from the page, she describes herself as someone who enjoys hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach, then immediately jokes that this mostly translates to being a homebody who trades movie quotes with her husband. She also has a soft spot for crude-humor movies and loves curling up under a fluffy blanket during a thunderstorm.
And if there are tornadoes, she has admitted that the blanket may end up in the bathtub.
These days she also writes closed-door romance under the name Molly Barlowe. Whether she is writing steamy contemporary romance or cleaner love stories, the through line is pretty clear: she likes romance that earns its ending, and readers who want big emotion usually know exactly why they keep coming back.
