Author bio

Megan Walker is the name attached to two quite different romance-focused catalogues, and it helps to keep them separate. One writer creates gentle Regency stories set in early nineteenth-century England. Another co-writes contemporary romantic comedies and fantasy with Janci Patterson. The shared byline can make a book list look unusual, but the books themselves have clear lanes.

The Regency novelist was raised on a berry farm in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. As a child, she read widely, drew, and let her imagination wander toward distant places and past eras. That early habit of daydreaming eventually found a home in stories about English country houses, difficult family circumstances, and people trying to choose love on their own terms.

While earning a degree in Early Childhood Education, she married and began a family. Her interest in Regency England stayed with her, though, and she started writing the kinds of romances she wanted to read. The move from imagining scenes to putting them on the page became the start of her publishing career.

Her first novella, A Beautiful Love, arrived in 2019. Inspired by “The Ugly Duckling,” it follows childhood friends separated by an accident and the fear that comes afterward. It is a compact story about scars, trust, and seeing a person clearly.

Then came Lakeshire Park, her first full-length novel. Amelia Moore and Peter Wood begin as rivals at a house party, each determined to arrange a good match for a sibling. The premise gives Walker room for sharp disagreements, practical worries about money and security, and the slow realization that two stubborn people may understand each other better than expected.

Later books such as Miss Newbury’s List, Highcliffe House, and The Duke’s Bargain keep returning to women facing choices that Society would rather make for them. Her heroines want room to act, whether that means finishing a childhood list before an unwanted marriage, taking a business trip to Brighton, or rebuilding a reputation after scandal. The romances are warm, restrained, and built around conversation, friendship, and changed first impressions.

She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her husband and three children. Her Regency work often has a Jane Austen-shaped interest in family pressure, social rules, and mismatched assumptions, but it keeps the focus close to the characters and their everyday decisions.

The other Megan Walker works in a more modern, collaborative space. This Utah-based writer has teamed with Janci Patterson on romantic comedies and the young adult urban fantasy series The Skilled. Their contemporary books lean into messy friendships, show-business or online-life complications, and people who have to say what they actually want.

That side of the byline includes Su-Lin’s Super Awesome Casual Dating Plan, about a content creator in love with her best friend, and the Venice-set fantasy novels Sinking City and Rising City. Together, these two bodies of work offer very different kinds of escapism, from ballrooms and seaside estates to motorcycles, magic, and a city full of hidden danger.
