Series background & context
Mantles of Power is a fantasy trilogy set in a universe where gods walk the earth and portals connect the mortal realm with the heavens and hells. Its central character is Isalla, an angel who is betrayed by people she trusted, stripped of her wings, and cast down into the hells.
She falls a very long way.
Isalla expects demons to be enemies. Her rescue by Kanae, a demoness, immediately challenges that belief. Far from home and cut off from the certainty that once guided her, Isalla has little choice but to accept help. The partnership between Isalla and Kanae becomes the foundation of the series, as trust grows between two people who were taught to see each other as natural foes.
The setting allows for big fantasy spectacle, but the main tension comes from competing ideas about loyalty, morality, and power. Angels are not automatically good. Demons are not automatically cruel. Isalla has to reconsider the assumptions that structured her whole life while a conspiracy threatens more than her personal safety.
Heaven's Fallen begins with Isalla's betrayal and her first difficult days in the hells. Mortal Gods broadens the conflict, bringing other characters into danger and making the enemy's plans clearer. Hell's Ascendant brings the trilogy's major struggle to a head as Isalla, her friends, and their allies face a threat that reaches across all three realms.
Romance develops alongside the action, but it does not erase the characters' differences. The books give space to the practical work of becoming allies, learning who deserves trust, and choosing what kind of future to fight for. The result is an adventure that mixes celestial politics, demonic realms, magic, and relationship-driven stakes.
Expect a brisk, high-stakes fantasy with portals, conspiracies, and a central heroine who has to rebuild her identity after losing the role that once defined her.
Start with Heaven's Fallen.
