Making of a Gentleman Books in Order

The series begins with The Making of a Gentleman. Jonah Quinn escapes Newgate Prison only moments before he is due to be hanged, taking prison volunteer Florence Hathaway with him as a hostage. It is an unlikely pairing from the start. Florence is a determined spinster whose faith leads her to work with prisoners. Jonah is a fugitive who has no interest in being reformed, dressed up, or welcomed by respectable society. Yet their forced journey brings them into close contact, and Florence's confidence in his capacity to change becomes harder for Jonah to dismiss.

The danger is personal.

A Bride of Honor follows a different couple and moves the focus to the divide between wealth and service. Damian Hathaway is an impoverished preacher, physically limited by a wooden leg, who devotes himself to his parish. Lindsay Phillips is a young woman of rank, expected to marry well and already engaged to a gentleman from fashionable society.

Damian notices a seriousness in Lindsay that others overlook, while Lindsay finds his life and convictions hard to forget. Their friendship crosses boundaries that both families and parishioners would prefer to keep in place. The question is not simply whether they care for each other, but whether they can choose honesty and conviction when that choice comes at a cost.

These books are linked by the Hathaway family and the same Regency setting, though each romance has its own complete arc. Expect emotional stakes rather than elaborate mystery plots, along with characters who have to confront pride, shame, class prejudice, and the fear that the past has already decided their future.
