The Leighton Sisters books follow two young women from Maine whose lives take them into the unsettled world of post-Napoleonic Europe. The series begins with The Rogue's Redemption and continues with She Shall Be Praised. Each novel centers on a different sister, but the family connection gives the second book a sense of continuation.

In The Rogue's Redemption, Hester Leighton arrives in London from the Maine Territory and meets Major Gerrit Hawkes. The war is over, and London is celebrating victory at Waterloo, but Gerrit has not left the fighting behind. He is troubled by what he saw and by the reckless life he has made for himself since returning home. Hester is drawn to him despite his warnings that he is the wrong sort of man for her.

Their difference in background matters. Hester comes from a practical, independent Maine family and does not fit neatly into London's rules of rank and manners. Gerrit knows the rules all too well, yet feels increasingly cut off from the life he once had. Their relationship is a slow test of whether he can stop punishing himself and accept the hope Hester offers.

The second book shifts to Paris in 1817. Katie Leighton accompanies Hester and Gerrit after Napoleon's fall, but she is less interested in fashionable sightseeing than in people who have been left behind by the conflict. She spends time among wounded veterans at Les Invalides, where she becomes concerned for a young French soldier whose injuries have hardened him.

These are romances, but war's aftermath stays close to the surface. The series looks at soldiers trying to return to ordinary life, families learning how to help without taking over, and women whose compassion is not the same thing as naivete. Hester and Katie care deeply, though both have to learn that love cannot erase another person's wounds by itself.

Expect historical settings, gentle but serious Christian themes, and relationships shaped by recovery and forgiveness. The books work best in order because She Shall Be Praised revisits Hester and Gerrit, but each sister gets her own romance and emotional journey.
