Mage Craft Books in Order

Mage Craft starts with a classic fantasy hook and then immediately makes it messier. Marion Garin wakes up in a hospital with no memory, a pile of supernatural enemies, and no clear sense of who she used to be. That is the setup in Cast in Angelfire, and it gives the series both its mystery and its tension.

Marion is not just any amnesiac heroine. She is a half-angel mage with dangerous power and deep ties to forces much bigger than herself. As she pieces together her past, she falls into conflicts involving vampires, faeries, angels, and court politics that are far more brutal than they first appear. Lucas Flynn, the doctor who steps in to protect her, becomes an important anchor, but this is never a simple rescue story.

Power is the real problem here.

As the series continues through books like Cast in Hellfire, Cast in Faefire, and Cast in Balefire, the focus widens from memory and survival to rulership, inheritance, and the kind of magical authority that can warp every relationship around it. Marion has to figure out not only who she was, but what she is willing to become. That question drives the whole run.

Compared with some other Descentverse branches, Mage Craft leans harder into romance, court intrigue, and identity. There are still fights and monsters, but there is also a lot of emotional tension wrapped around crowns, titles, old loyalties, and people who want Marion for very different reasons.

So if you like urban fantasy that slides toward faerie politics and high-stakes personal drama, this series is a strong fit. It keeps Reine's darker edge, but it uses it in a story that feels a little more regal, a little more intimate, and very interested in what magic does to love and memory.
