Author bio
Lynn Morrison grew up in Mississippi and eventually built a life that stretches across several countries and careers. Before readers met her wyverns, witches, and spies, she spent more than twenty years working in marketing for global companies, start-ups, and her own ventures.
Those years gave her a front row seat to how stories move people. She held senior roles in Fortune 100 and FTSE 250 firms, consulted for small businesses, and learned how to explain complicated ideas in everyday language. That experience now sits quietly in the background of her non-fiction guides and the way she connects with readers.
Her shift into writing began when she moved to the Netherlands as a new mother. She and her husband did not yet speak the language, did not know the system, and definitely did not know which questions to ask. To help other expat families, they launched a website that collected the kind of practical advice she wished she had found on day one.
At first she wrote about childcare, paperwork, and the small shocks of life abroad. Over time those posts became more personal, mixing the chaos of parenting with observations about marriage, friendship, and the oddities of expat life. Somewhere in those late-night drafts she realised that pushing a story a little further, adding a twist or a joke, was the part she loved most.
Fiction followed. Her first novel, Murder at St Margaret, opened the door to the Oxford Key Mysteries, in which event planner Natalie Payne discovers that the University of Oxford runs on as much magic as tradition. Talking wyvern-cats, ghostly academics called Eternals, and murder investigations weave together with real colleges and rituals.
From there, her worlds expanded. In Raven's Influence and the rest of the Midlife in Raven books, a forty-something heroine discovers she is an Earth witch in a small Georgia town quietly hosting Roman gods. The Dora and Rex 1920s Mysteries follow a war-scarred aristocrat and a glamorous femme fatale through jazz-age London and beyond, while the Stakes and Spells Mysteries drop a midlife vampire into witch politics and supernatural bureaucracy. With Anne Radcliffe she co-writes Regency-set series like The Crown Jewels Regency Mysteries and The Diamond of the Ton Regency Mysteries, which blend ballroom glitter with court intrigue.
Alongside the fiction, she draws directly on her marketing background in two concise guides for writers, How to Be Published and How to Market Your Book. Both are aimed at demystifying an industry that can feel opaque to newcomers and giving authors practical tools they can actually use.
Certain threads run through all of her work: women finding their footing at different stages of life, strong friendships, found families, and the way travel or a move abroad can knock a person sideways in the best possible way. That probably has something to do with the fact that she has lived in California, Italy, France, the Netherlands and the UK, collecting settings and odd details as she goes.
These days she lives in Oxford, England with her husband, their two daughters, and two cats. When she is not writing, she is often reading, planning the next trip, or chatting with readers in her online community, Lynn Morrison's Not a Book Club, where talk ranges from books and baking to the everyday surprises of expat life.
Whether she is writing about wyverns in Oxford, gods in Georgia, or spies in Rome, her stories stay rooted in messy, hopeful, very human characters.
