Author bio

LynDee Walker grew up in North Central Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth sprawl, and wanted to be Lois Lane before she was old enough to do much more than say press conference. She studied journalism at the University of North Texas, which set her on the path she first followed in newspapers and magazines rather than novels.

Before fiction, she was an award-winning journalist who covered just about everything, from ribbon cuttings and high school football to capital murder trials and police corruption. That work gave her a close look at cops, courts, public officials, and the ordinary people caught in the middle, and it still shapes the grounded feel of her crime stories.

Journalism also taught her to listen. She has talked about writing down not only what people said, but how they said it, and that ear for speech helps explain why her dialogue feels brisk, natural, and lived in.

Then motherhood changed the schedule, but not the storytelling itch.

Walker has said the real turn toward fiction came one summer day in Richmond, Virginia, when her daughter was at camp, her baby son was napping, and a reporter in impossible heels popped into her head. That character became Nichelle Clarke. Walker sat down at her laptop, started writing, and finished the first draft of Front Page Fatality in about five weeks because she was afraid the voice might disappear if she stopped.

It did not disappear. Front Page Fatality introduced readers to a Richmond crime reporter who keeps tugging at loose threads until official stories come apart, and the book went on to earn an Agatha Award nomination for best first novel. Later Nichelle books such as Buried Leads, Cover Shot, and Hidden Victims kept building that mix of newsroom pace, murder investigation, and stubborn curiosity that readers clearly enjoy. Walker has also joked that an early unpublished novel was so overloaded with purple prose that she keeps it around as a reminder of what not to do, which may be one reason her published books move so cleanly and fast.

She later shifted from a reporter heroine to a law-enforcement one with Texas Ranger Faith McClellan. In Fear No Truth, Leave No Stone, and No Secrets Remain, Walker leans harder into police procedure, family history, and cases that cut straight through professional boundaries into private pain. Her books often return to a few steady interests, strong women, messy truths, and the trouble that starts when someone decides the official version is not good enough.

Place matters in her work.

Richmond gives the Nichelle books old streets, politics, and newsroom energy. Texas gives the Faith novels broad skies, hard history, and plenty of room for secrets to hide. She also likes to move beyond straight crime fiction, which shows in the treasure-hunt adventures she writes with Bruce Robert Coffin, beginning with The General's Gold, and in her later psychological suspense novels such as The Pastor's Wife, The Housewife Next Door, and The Other Widow.

Walker now lives in Richmond, Virginia, where she writes while juggling family life, children's sports schedules, and two very spoiled rescue dogs. She has said her favorite things include family, hydrangeas, porches, beaches, and books, which feels about right for a writer whose stories balance danger with warmth. Even when her plots get dark, her characters usually keep a little grit, humor, and heart.
