Lore is a darker, newer branch of Tabitha King's fiction, written with Stephanie Ketchum. At the center is Layil "Lily" Bishop, a young woman whose family history is full of missing pieces. In Obscured, the disappearance of her grandmother pushes her into a search that opens onto a much more dangerous world. That is where the series gets its drive: private family questions keep leading to public power, violence, and secrets that were buried for a reason.

Lily's missing piece is her father. She has never met him, and that gap turns out to matter far more than she expected. He is tied to a huge televangelist network on the East Coast and to a hidden army built in the shadows. The books use that setup to mix intimate fear with a larger conspiracy, so the story can move from one woman's search for answers to a struggle with people who have money, followers, and reach.

The first book has the feel of a chase story wrapped around a family mystery. Lily is not just looking for information, she is trying to stay alive while figuring out whom she can trust. Her grandmother's disappearance is the spark, but the deeper tension comes from Lily's own place in the story and from the danger created by her very existence. That gives Obscured its nervous energy, with horror and suspense coming as much from hidden motives as from direct threats.

The Anima picks up with the pressure already on. Dottie has vanished so completely that it is almost as if she has been erased, her daughter is left in shock, and Lily cannot simply go home and pretend any of this is over. When a dark stranger offers help, the series leans harder into uncertainty: help may be real, but it may come with its own cost. The second book widens the sense of myth and menace without losing sight of the emotional core, which is still Lily trying to understand her family and survive it.

Lore is more interested in inheritance, control, belief, and the way powerful institutions can twist private lives. So far it is compact, but it already has a clear identity, dark, tense, and built around the idea that the most dangerous stories are often the ones a family refuses to tell out loud.
