Author bio
Laura V. Hilton writes contemporary Christian romance, especially stories set in Amish communities. Her books make room for romance, family strain, faith, second chances, and the messier problems people bring with them when they hope to begin again.
She grew up around the Great Lakes in Michigan, where lighthouses, Coast Guard history, and regional history became lasting interests. Her maternal grandparents were Amish, a family connection that helped shape her interest in writing Amish characters as people with everyday worries, complicated relationships, and real choices to make.
Before she was publishing novels, Hilton was also an active book reviewer in the Christian-fiction world. Reading widely gave her a close view of the kind of stories that stay with readers, and she eventually moved from reviewing books to writing her own.
Her early novels include Hot Chocolate and Shadows of the Past. In 2010, she began the Amish of Seymour County books with Patchwork Dreams, a romance about Becky Troyer, a young mother trying to find acceptance after returning from rumspringa. The series continued with A Harvest of Hearts and Promised to Another.
Hilton's stories often start with people who feel stuck.
In the Amish of Webster County books, characters face injury, grief, old mistakes, family secrets, and difficult questions about belonging. Healing Love brings together an Amish midwife and an English veterinarian after an accident. Surrendered Love follows a personal shopper and a former Amish police officer whose shared past has not stayed buried. Awakened Love turns toward a woman whose understanding of her family changes in a hurry.
She returned to Missouri in the Amish of Jamesport novels, including Snow Globe, The Postcard, and The Bird House. Jamesport also became the setting for later connected stories such as The Amish Firefighter, The Amish Wanderer, The Christmas Admirer, and Love by the Numbers. These books mix close-knit community life with suspense, rumors, loss, and romances that do not take the easy route.
Her settings range beyond Missouri, too. Firestorm and The Amish Candymaker are set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, while Swept Away, written with Cindy Loven, uses a quilt, a grandmother's memories, and an Appalachian setting to bring two guarded people together. Her Hidden Springs books begin with a tornado and an interrupted wedding in Illinois.
Christmas shows up often in Hilton's work. It gives her characters a reason to return home, face unfinished business, and risk a conversation they have avoided for too long. Christmas Mittens, Carousel Christmas, A White Christmas in Webster County, and The Amish Christmas Gift all use the season as more than background decoration.
Hilton lives in Arkansas with her pastor-husband, their five children, and a dog named Skye. She has also written devotionals and blog posts, reviewed books, and spoken openly about being a breast cancer survivor.
Her fiction tends to ask a simple question: can people stop letting shame, fear, or old pain make every decision for them? The answer is rarely quick, but her characters keep trying.
