Splunk brings a different kind of intelligence, plus motives and instincts that make the universe feel older and less fully mapped than humanity likes to believe.

Each novella pushes Jim farther from home and closer to enemies who would rather the Raknar stay mysterious. By the time the sequence reaches Eye of Minerva and Hunted, his search has turned into a race against attention he never wanted. He is no longer just following clues. He is being noticed by powers that understand exactly how dangerous that curiosity could become.

It deepens Jim as a character, gives Splunk more weight, and shows how a personal quest for knowledge becomes part of a much larger war.
