Author bio

Jeaniene Frost is an American fantasy romance author who has built a career out of the stories that once lived only in her head. Born in 1974, she fell for paranormal fiction as a teenager and decided at twelve that she wanted to write books of her own. It still took almost twenty years before she sat down to finish a novel, but once she started, she never really stopped.

Before publishing, she worked full time outside of writing and drafted at night and on weekends. For a long time she worried she did not know the right way to write a book or needed more classes first. Eventually she gave herself permission to learn by doing, finishing one practice novel and then another. Those early efforts would become the backbone of her breakout Night Huntress series.

The spark for that universe came from a vivid dream. She pictured a couple arguing in a cemetery and realised the woman was a half vampire who hunted the undead while the man was a full vampire who refused to leave her alone. That dream grew into Halfway to the Grave, the book that introduced readers to Cat Crawfield and Bones and put Frost on major bestseller lists.

From there she built a whole connected universe. The Night Huntress novels follow Cat and Bones through seven books and several novellas, mixing covert government work, vampire politics, and a very stubborn love story. Spin offs like First Drop of Crimson and Eternal Kiss of Darkness give side characters their own arcs, while the Night Prince and Night Rebel books hand the spotlight to Vlad Tepesh, Ian, and vampire Law Guardian Veritas.

Frost also writes separate fantasy worlds. The Broken Destiny trilogy sends Ivy, a young woman who has always seen things others call hallucinations, into demon realms in search of holy weapons and a missing sister. Her upcoming Beautiful and Beastly series, beginning with A Curse of Beasts and Magic, moves into full romantasy with Wardens guarding portals between realms and a heroine who quite literally carries a Beast inside her.

Across all of these settings, readers come back for sharp dialogue, morally complicated heroines, and heroes who can be terrifying in battle yet gentle with the people they love. She likes to ground her magic in rules and consequences, then throw her characters into situations where doing the right thing is costly and doing nothing is worse. Fights, banter, grief, and small domestic moments share the same page.

Away from the keyboard, Frost describes herself as a Jesus follower, a feminist, and a dog mama. She lives in Maryland with her husband, Matthew, who has long since accepted that weekends are for sleeping late and that the kitchen is not her favourite room. When she is not working on a deadline, she enjoys reading, writing poetry, watching movies, exploring old cemeteries, spelunking, and taking road trips by car. Airplanes, children, and cookbooks, she likes to joke, still scare her more than any vampire ever could.

Her novels have sold in more than twenty countries and appeared on lists from the New York Times, USA Today, and other outlets, yet she tends to measure success by quieter signs: a reader email saying Cat and Bones helped someone through a hard week, or that Ivy and Adrian made them believe in second chances. For Frost, the real reward is still the same as it was with that first draft, sitting down with a stubborn story and writing until the people in it feel real enough to share.
