A Curse of Beasts and Magic

by Jeaniene Frost

2026

Raine Stone survived the attack that killed her family but now harbours a monstrous Beast that feeds on violence. Moonlighting as a vigilante to control it, she saves an elderly man and draws the attention of Warden Remy Byrne, who polices mythic creatures and may be the only one who can help her master what she has become.

Series background & context

Beautiful and Beastly is Jeaniene Frost’s upcoming romantasy series, set in a completely new world separate from her vampire novels. The first book, A Curse of Beasts and Magic, introduces Raine Stone, a young woman who survived the vicious attack that killed her family and walked away with something monstrous now living under her skin.

In the years since, Raine has learned that the Beast inside her craves violence and chaos. To keep it on a leash, she stalks dangerous streets at night, turning that hunger toward protecting strangers as an anonymous vigilante. It is a precarious balance, and she is always a few bad choices away from becoming the monster everyone fears.

Everything changes the night she uses the Beast’s power to heal an elderly man who has been attacked. That single act pulls her across the path of Remington Remy Byrne, a Warden charged with guarding the fragile barrier between the human world and hidden realms full of mythic creatures. Wardens police dragons, fae, shapeshifters, and more, and they are not supposed to have any sympathy for rogue magic users like Raine.

The series blends the familiar comfort of a fairy tale with the grit of an urban fantasy thriller. It has the feel of Beauty and the Beast meeting a monster hunter story, with the twist that Beauty is the one wrestling with claws and fangs while the so called Beast is the man who keeps order among things that go bump in the night. Expect courtly intrigue in other realms, street level fights in ours, and a magic system where bargains and oaths carry real weight.

Because this world is unconnected to Night Huntress or Broken Destiny, you can treat Beautiful and Beastly as a clean entry point. It is built for readers who enjoy complex world building, slow burn romance between dangerous people, and the question of whether someone who has literally become a monster can still choose to be kind.

As later books arrive, they are expected to continue Raine and Remy’s story while widening the view of Wardens, rival factions, and the creatures living just out of human sight.
