Author bio

Jacqui Rose has carved out a distinct place for herself in the world of British crime fiction. Born in Manchester and raised in a small mining village in South Yorkshire, her path to becoming a bestselling author was anything but a straight line. She was adopted at a young age, a circumstance that left her with a lingering sense of isolation growing up.

To cope with feeling different, she turned to writing. It became her constant companion and her escape. Even back then, she understood the value of a good story. In a display of early entrepreneurial spirit, she used to charge her classmates a packet of sherbet dips to write their essays for them. It was her first paid gig as a writer, though the currency was a bit sticky.

After enduring a turbulent time at boarding school, she decided to pursue performance and attended drama school. Eventually, the pull of the big city was too strong to resist, and she moved to London. However, life in the capital was far from glamorous at first.

Her early years in the city were incredibly difficult. She struggled to make ends meet and spent a brief period homeless. It was a harsh introduction to adult life, but it gave her a perspective that many people never see. Once she found her footing, she didn't forget where she had been. Rose began volunteering to teach drama and writing workshops to those on the margins of society. She worked with prisoners, ex-offenders, and the homeless, helping them find the words to tell their own stories.

Her personal life also presented severe challenges. Rose is a survivor of an abusive relationship, a traumatic experience that could have silenced her. Instead, she used it. She channeled that pain and raw emotion into her writing. Those difficult years fueled the intensity of her debut novel, Taken. Writing became a way to process the darkness she had lived through.

Today, she is best known for her gritty, character-driven gangland thrillers. Her books are mostly set in the shadowy corners of London and Essex, places where danger is always just a page turn away. She doesn't write about damsels in distress. Her stories are packed with strong women who are forced to make impossible choices to survive.

Readers love her ability to weave complex plots involving violent family feuds and the criminal underworld. She has built a connected universe where loyalty is rare and betrayal is fatal. Recurring characters, such as Alfie Jennings and Franny Doyle, appear throughout several of her books. This continuity rewards long-time readers, making the stakes feel even higher.

Her talent hasn't gone unnoticed by her peers, either. In addition to her successful solo career, she has co-authored novels with the legendary crime writer Martina Cole. It is a testament to her skill that she can stand toe-to-toe with the biggest names in the genre.

Despite the violence and chaos in her books, her actual life is now much more peaceful. Jacqui Rose lives in the quiet countryside of South East England. Far away from the gangland drama she writes about, she is surrounded by her horses and other animals. It is a well-earned sanctuary for an author who has lived through the tough times and come out the other side telling stories.
