The move into mystery suited her, and readers responded to the snowbound setting, the rotating points of view, and the way old resentments keep leaking into the present.

The Guest List made that shift feel definitive. A wedding on a remote Irish island gave Foley the perfect stage for what has become her signature mix of glamour, unease, and social tension. She kept building on that in The Paris Apartment, where a missing brother draws a young woman into a sealed-off Paris building full of secrets, and in The Midnight Feast, which takes place around the opening of a luxury coastal resort. These are the books many readers now come to her for, tense plots, sharp settings, and groups of people who are much less polished than they seem.

She likes beautiful places with bad energy.

That idea runs through most of her work. Foley is drawn to enclosed worlds, country houses, islands, apartment blocks, hotels, and holiday spots where people are forced together and cannot easily escape one another. She also returns again and again to brittle friendships, class friction, curated identities, and the small humiliations people never quite forget. She has spoken about reading Agatha Christie young, and that influence is easy to spot in her love of closed circles, careful clueing, and the slow exposure of motive.

In 2026, that Christie connection became explicit with Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel, her official Miss Marple novel. It is a natural fit for her strengths: a striking setting, a tightly contained cast, and a mystery powered as much by human weakness as by plot. Alongside her fiction, she has also written journalism for magazines. These days she writes full-time, and her books still show the same mix of editorial precision, strong atmosphere, and curiosity about what people hide from each other.
