Imp World Books in Order

The Imp World books are where Debra Dunbar lets the wider universe around Samantha Martin breathe. If the main Imp novels give you the core story, these books show what everyone else is doing while heaven, Hel, and Earth keep colliding. They are spin-offs, side stories, short works, and connected subseries, but they all belong to the same supernatural ecosystem.

That ecosystem is crowded in the best possible way.

Across Imp World you will meet vampires in border territory, ex-slaves from Hel trying to build new lives, demons on vacation, angels with grudges, hidden half-breeds, Alaskan werewolves, magical outsiders, and people who would very much like all the portals, treaties, and old feuds to stop wrecking their week. Some books are closer to romance, some lean harder into adventure or mystery, and some work almost like character spotlights for figures who matter in the larger world.

The big advantage of the shared setting is that the supernatural politics already have weight. Angels and demons are not abstract forces here. They have histories, rules, prejudices, blind spots, and paperwork. Elves carry old cruelties with them. Werewolf packs have their own responsibilities. Human places, from Baltimore to Alaska to the edge of a supernatural war zone, get caught in the spillover. That means even a book focused on one couple or one small mission usually feels attached to something larger.

At the same time, these are not homework books. You do not need to read everything in strict order to enjoy them. A story like No Man's Land can work as a tense paranormal romance on its own. Three Wishes gives Dar room to become more than Sam's brother. Penance, Northern Lights, and Far from Center all show different corners of the world through different kinds of protagonists. What the shared background adds is texture. Longtime readers get the pleasure of seeing how events overlap and how side characters grow when they are finally handed the lead.

Tone-wise, Imp World is broader than the main Imp series. Some entries are dark and personal. Some are funny. Some are romantic. Some are short bursts of lore and character. What stays consistent is Dunbar's interest in messy loyalties, supernatural communities, and people trying to carve out decent lives in a world run by dangerous powers.

If you finish the Imp books and do not want to leave that world yet, this is the next shelf to head for. It is where the side streets, backstories, love stories, and near misses live. Sam may be the loudest voice in the universe, but she is far from the only interesting person in it.
