Series background & context

Angela Clark’s story in the I Heart books starts with the worst wedding imaginable. After discovering her long‑term boyfriend has been cheating, she storms out of a ceremony in rural England, grabs her passport and a pair of beloved heels, and gets on a plane to New York.

That impulsive escape becomes the foundation of the series. In I Heart New York Angela stumbles into a tiny boutique hotel, meets larger‑than‑life Jenny Lopez and begins blogging for glossy magazine The Look. Each book then follows her to a new city – Hollywood, Paris, Vegas, London, a very festive New York and finally Hawaii – as she tries to turn a panicked getaway into an actual life.

Across the novels Angela juggles her career as a writer, her intense but supportive friendship with Jenny, and a relationship with indie musician Alex. The books lean into the fun parts of travel – cocktails, shopping, late‑night adventures and unexpected new friends – but they also show Angela dealing with visas, money worries, family expectations and the question of where, exactly, home is now.

Later instalments bring her back to London to face the past she ran away from, then return her to Manhattan for a chaotic Christmas full of work drama and changing priorities. In I Heart Forever and I Heart Hawaii, Angela and her friends are older and slightly more settled, but there are still big decisions about careers, relationships and family life bubbling under the surface.

What ties the series together is tone. These are warm, funny romantic comedies that treat travel like a character in its own right. Every city has its own mood – red‑carpet Hollywood, romantic Parisian streets, neon‑lit Vegas and laid‑back Hawaiian beaches – and Angela barrels through all of them in slightly the wrong shoes, trying hard and often getting it hilariously wrong.

Readers who enjoy following one heroine over several stages of her life tend to start with I Heart New York and read straight through, but each book also includes enough background to work on its own. The Jenny Lopez short stories sit alongside the main series, offering bonus glimpses of the same world from Angela’s outrageously confident best friend.
