Honors (Ann Aguirre) Books in Order

The Honors books, written by Ann Aguirre with Rachel Caine, follow Zara Cole from the hard streets of New Detroit into a much larger and stranger universe. Zara is chosen to serve as an Honor, a human partner to a sentient Leviathan ship, and she quickly learns that the official version of this opportunity leaves out a lot.

Her partner is Nadim. He is a living spacecraft with a mind, feelings, and a perspective that is very different from Zara's. Their uneasy connection becomes the center of the trilogy, especially once Zara realizes that space travel is not the escape she imagined.

Nothing stays simple for long.

The series brings in Beatriz, alien cultures, criminal enclaves, war, and threats that keep widening beyond the first mission. Even so, the focus stays close to Zara, a young woman shaped by poverty, loss, and the need to protect herself. She is capable, skeptical, and not especially interested in being told what to do.

Start with Honor Among Thieves, then continue with Honor Bound and Honor Lost. These books work best in order because the friendships, the secrets around Nadim, and the larger conflict all build from one installment to the next. Expect YA science fiction with danger, found family, and a heroine learning that survival can mean letting other people matter.
