Series background & context

Hearts of Harewood is a connected Regency series set in and around the country town of Harewood. It is one of Stockton's newer historical worlds, and it shows how much she enjoys letting a familiar place grow as different characters take the lead.

Harewood itself matters. This is not London-first Regency romance. The series stays closer to estates, neighboring families, local expectations, and the quieter social webs of a country community. That makes room for different kinds of tension: class difference, inheritance, private grief, and secrets that matter deeply even if they never reach the front page of scandal.

The first book, To Forge Her Fate, sets the tone with unequal social status and forbidden love between Eliza Rose and Jacob Ridley, a blacksmith. A Proper Governess turns inward, pairing a heroine in service with a widower who has retreated from the world. The Rules of Courtship uses friendship, a house party, and a mutual matchmaking pact that goes predictably wrong. A Secret Correspondence closes the currently known line with anonymous letters, a bruised dandy, and a heroine whose past has not finished with her.

What makes the series work is the overlap. Families, friends, and emotional loose ends move from one book to the next, so each romance adds another layer to the same social world.

These books are strongest in order. Each one can stand alone, but Harewood becomes richer the longer you stay there.
