Series background & context
The Girls Do Or Don't series is a set of connected contemporary romances set around the close-knit town of Rock Creek, Pennsylvania. The books follow women with strong opinions, complicated families, and very little patience for people who think they know what is best for them. The tone is warm, funny, and occasionally chaotic.
The series begins with Good Girls Do, which brings librarian Julia Wright to the center of the story. Julia has built a quiet, stable life in Serenity Falls, but her free-spirited mother, sister, niece, and two llamas soon turn that plan upside down. At the same time, Luke Maguire returns to town and unsettles Julia's carefully managed world.
Privacy does not last long in a small town.
Bad Girls Don't shifts attention to Julia's sister, Skye, a single mother whose confidence and rule-breaking style put her at odds with a local lawman. Big Girls Don't Cry follows Leena Riley, who returns home after her plus-size modeling career falters and takes a job at veterinarian Cole Flannigan's office. Cole was one of the people who made her teenage years difficult, so their growing attraction comes with history attached.
The final book, Smart Girls Think Twice, focuses on sociologist Emma Riley. She returns to Rock Creek for her sisters' weddings and to study the town's sudden popularity, then finds herself drawn to extreme athlete Jake Slayter. Like the earlier books, it uses the town's gossip, family networks, and unexpected disruptions to push two guarded people together.
Across the series, romance is tied to belonging. The heroines have to decide what home means to them, whether family can change, and how much of their lives they want to control alone. The men tend to be stubborn, but the women are not interested in being rescued. Start with Good Girls Do if you want the full family setup, then continue in order to follow the widening group of friends and relatives.
