Fort Reno Books in Order

The Fort Reno series takes place in and around the military post at Fort Reno, in late nineteenth-century Oklahoma Territory. It is a frontier setting, but not a simple one. Soldiers, officers' families, local residents, Native communities, newcomers, and people passing through all have different stakes in the changing territory. That mix gives the series its energy.

Ambrosia has her own reason for wanting the trip to fail, while Bradley risks losing his commission if he cannot finish the job. It is a lighter side trip, built around a very real piece of American military history and a pair of travelers who do not begin on the same side.

In The Lieutenant's Bargain, aspiring painter Hattie Walker is traveling to Denver when a stagecoach attack leaves her in the care of an Arapaho group. Lieutenant Jack Hennessey, who has worked with the tribe and supports the mission school at Fort Reno, is sent to bring her back. Hattie is also someone from Jack's past, so a rescue mission turns into a second chance complicated by fear, poor communication, and competing hopes for the future.

Then The Major's Daughter moves toward the 1889 land run. Caroline Adams wants a life with more adventure than polite society offers, while Frisco Smith has spent years fighting for a chance to claim a home of his own. When the rush for land begins, they find themselves on opposite sides of the same claim.
