Fairy Tales of the Magicorum Books in Order

The Fairy Tales of the Magicorum books take place in a version of our world where fairies, shifters, witches, and wizards are real, but most humans do not know it. The people with magic are called the Magicorum, and each of them is locked into a fairy tale life template. That is the clever hook of the series. Characters do not just resemble Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. They are pushed by old magic to live out those roles, whether they want to or not.

Most of them really do not.

That tension gives the series its shape. Bryar Rose should be a Sleeping Beauty figure, but she is not interested in acting sweet and decorative. Elle would like to avoid being anybody’s Cinderella. Later books widen the focus to other characters and templates, including darker fairy tale roles and Rapunzel-inspired storylines. The result is a connected fantasy world where fate keeps trying to force a script, while the characters keep trying to rewrite it.

The setting moves between modern city life and fae realms, and that contrast is a big part of the fun. Manhattan shops, prep school drama, social events, and family messes sit right beside shapeshifters, magical contracts, dangerous queens, and ancient curses. Bauer uses the familiar shape of fairy tales, but the books do not feel old-fashioned. They read more like romantic fantasy adventures in contemporary clothes, with plenty of banter and momentum.

Magic is fading, and that matters.

There is also a larger world problem connecting the books. The Magicorum are not just dealing with personal love stories. Their power is unstable, the rules around their roles are dangerous, and the balance among magical groups is constantly under strain. That gives the series more than a makeover gimmick. Love stories matter here, but so do survival, inheritance, and the question of what happens when a whole magical society is stuck following stories that no longer fit.

If you like retellings but want something looser, more connected, and a little snarkier, this series is an easy pick. Start with Wolves and Roses if you want the broad entry into the world, then keep going to watch Bauer fold in Cinderella, Rapunzel, and other tale strands while still building one shared magical setting.
