Series background & context

Christine Kersey's Fair Catch series takes place around the NFL's Sacramento Vipers and turns pro football into the backdrop for a run of clean contemporary romances. Each book follows a different player and a different love story, so the series is built for readers who like standalones with a shared setting.

Football is part of the appeal, but romance is the point.

The heroes are quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, wide receivers, and defensive stars, yet the books are less interested in game strategy than in the parts of life the players cannot control. One man falls for a woman fleeing an abusive boyfriend. Another goes home after his father's death and reconnects with the girl next door. Another is a single father whose daughter's nanny becomes impossible to ignore. Another meets a young widow who is trying to date again while frightening incidents pile up. Another has to protect a wife who wakes up with no memory. Another recruits a fake girlfriend for a family camping trip to Yellowstone.

That variety keeps the series moving. Even though the players all belong to the same team, the books do not feel copy-and-paste. Some lean sweet. Some lean more suspenseful. A few use classic romance setups like forced proximity or fake dating. Others bring in grief, danger, or family complications that raise the stakes beyond a simple attraction.

The Sacramento Vipers connection gives the series continuity, and readers who enjoy a familiar fictional team will probably like watching different players step into the spotlight. But these are not books where you need a giant series bible to keep up. Kersey makes each romance easy to enter.

The tone is clean, emotional, and approachable. Expect competent athletes who still make a mess of their feelings, heroines with reasons to hesitate, and stories where fame may complicate things but does not erase the need for trust. If you want football romance without a lot of heat and with a steady supply of protective heroes, Fair Catch delivers that lane very well.
