When a magical mirror and a vain queen pull her into court life, the book becomes part Snow White retelling, part identity story, and part backstage drama with songs.

Then Ogre Enchanted circles back to the wider Ella Enchanted setting from a different angle. Evie is a healer who would much rather study symptoms than think about marriage, until Lucinda, the same impulsive fairy from Ella Enchanted, interferes again. Evie is turned into an ogre and told she must accept a proposal within a set time or remain one forever. The setup is funny, but it also asks serious questions about love, appearance, and what people owe each other.

What links these books is not one straight plotline but a shared mood and set of concerns. Levine likes girls who think for themselves, even when magic, beauty standards, or family expectations make that hard. She likes fairy-tale creatures that are stranger, funnier, or kinder than expected. And she keeps returning to the idea that goodness does not always look grand, and power does not always look fair.

Start with Ella Enchanted. It is the clear doorway into the world, and the later books feel richer once you know Lucinda, Kyrria, and the tone Levine is playing with. After that, Fairest and Ogre Enchanted both work well as follow-ups. They are connected, but each one tells its own complete story.
