Croygen is obsessed with one thing: securing the Nectar, the most coveted treasure in the world. Chasing Katrina through dragon caves, lawless ports, and a brewing human‑fae conflict, he is forced to confront old nightmares and the woman who wants to destroy him almost as much as she still wants him.
Series background & context
Devil in the Deep Blue Sea sails back into Stacey Marie Brown’s fae universe, but this time from the deck of a pirate ship. The duology follows Croygen, the infamous Silver Tongue Devil, and Katrina Roth, the woman once known as Puss in Boots, as they battle each other and the world in search of a dangerous treasure.
When Silver Tongue Devil opens, Croygen is reeling from the events that saved King Lars and Queen Kennedy’s throne. Grief and loss have hollowed him out, so he returns to the only constant he has ever had: the sea. Determined to reclaim his title as king of pirates, he hears of a rival terrorizing the oceans, a ruthless captain whose legend is growing.
That rival is Katrina, the girl who grew up at his side on a ship, trained by the same captain he once revered. Years earlier, the man she idolized cast her out, shattering her life and forcing her to rebuild herself into a feared pirate who takes what she wants and answers to no one. She has one goal left: make the Silver Tongue Devil pay for abandoning her.
Their reunion is anything but sweet. Old attraction and fresh hatred collide as they are forced into an uneasy partnership on the hunt for the Nectar, a rare substance born from the Fae War that can change the balance of power between fae and humans. Some see it as a miracle, others as a weapon. Either way, every pirate, king, and monster on the seas seems to want it.
In Devil in Boots, the stakes only climb. Croygen’s obsession with treasure is tangled up with guilt and a need for redemption, while Katrina is still balancing revenge against the inconvenient fact that she cannot stop caring about the man she swore to destroy. Their chase drags them through dragon caves, storm‑tossed waters, and the underbelly of cities like Budapest, brushing up against the same tensions between humans and fae that drive the Savage Lands books.
The duology reads like a rowdy, adult adventure: sword fights, sea beasts, tavern brawls, morally gray choices, and a central couple who flirt, fight, and bleed their way toward something like forgiveness. For readers of the Darkness and Lightness Saga novels, these books fill in more about the Nectar myth and show how choices on the sea ripple into the events on land.
