Series background & context
The heart of the Deviant series is Tyler and Dean, and Jaimie Roberts does not make their story gentle. The first book, Deviant, opens with one of her darkest hooks, Tyler is being visited by a faceless stranger who slips into her room, watches her, and turns himself into both a fear and a fantasy. He calls himself Lotus. She knows almost nothing about him. That imbalance is the point.
What makes the series work is that the stalking setup is only the outer layer. Underneath it sits years of shared history, broken trust, old wounds, and a revenge plan that is far more personal than it first appears. Tyler and Dean are not strangers in the usual sense. Their connection reaches back to childhood, which gives the books a strange mix of intimacy and threat. Roberts keeps using that tension, the sense that love, hatred, memory, and obsession are all tangled together.
The tone is very dark romance. These are books about control, manipulation, desire, and emotional damage, not sweet second chances or clean moral lines. Deviant is all build-up and collision. Redemption takes the aftermath and asks whether anything can survive it. Tyler tries to disappear and build a new life, but the past refuses to stay buried, and Dean has to face what he did instead of hiding behind lust and anger.
It is messy on purpose.
Then Scozzari widens the world. Instead of circling back to Tyler and Dean again, Roberts shifts the focus to Jeremy, or Jez, Scozzari, a fighter with his own bruises, and Caitlin Summers, the girl tied to his earlier life. The mood still fits the series, intense chemistry, emotional baggage, and old history coming back sharp, but it offers a fresh couple and shows that the Deviant world is bigger than one damaged relationship.
What carries across all three books is the feeling that nobody gets to stay untouched by the past. Roberts likes characters who are already marked before page one, and this series may be the clearest example of that habit. Expect secrets, revenge, possessive love, and plenty of emotional whiplash. If you want dark romance that leans hard into obsession and asks readers to sit with uncomfortable feelings instead of sanding them down, Deviant is where she goes all in.
