Highland Dragon Master sends Erik MacAlasdair to sea. He is looking for an ancient power that might help Scotland's cause, and the captain he finds is Toinette Deschamps, a dragon-shifter from his past. Their voyage leads toward an isolated island, buried magic, and a mission with consequences larger than either of them expected. It has the feel of a quest story, with shipboard tension and a steadily growing sense that the destination is more dangerous than the map suggests.

Across all three books, each couple gets a central romance and its own problem to solve. The larger thread is the MacAlasdairs' fight to keep their people, land, and freedom safe while English magic and human ambition make that harder.
