Daemons and Angels is an earlier Susan Hayes paranormal line, and it leans into darker magic, supernatural hunger, and the kind of romance that starts with a very bad idea. The best example is Arousal, where an ordinary woman buys an antique bed and discovers it is tied to an incubus who has spent centuries trapped by spellwork. That blend of modern life and old magic sets the tone for the series.

These books run hotter and closer to the edge.

The world here is not built around large teams or long military arcs. Instead, the focus is tighter and more intimate. Hayes uses cursed objects, bindings, supernatural beings, and the question of freedom to drive both the plot and the romance. Desire matters in these stories, but so does power. Who holds it, who lost it, and what it costs to give someone your trust.

Because the series is compact, it works well for readers who want paranormal romance without signing on for a giant reading project. You still get danger, magic, and strong emotional stakes, but in a smaller frame. The books connect through tone and supernatural premise more than through a sprawling cast.
