Series background & context

If you want a lighter entry into Kate Allenton's paranormal side, Cree Blue Psychic Eye is a great place to go. These are cozy mysteries with ghosts, secrets, and a heroine whose psychic ability is useful, inconvenient, and sometimes a little chaotic.

Cree Blue helps solve cold cases, but she does it quietly. Her identity is supposed to stay secret, and most of her work lives off the record. That hidden-life setup is a big part of the charm. Cree is good at what she does, but she is not polished or solemn about it. She is practical, sharp, and often stuck dealing with both the dead and the living at the same time.

The dead do not wait politely.

The books revolve around murders, disappearances, family secrets, weddings gone wrong, and the kind of cold cases everyone else has either forgotten or gotten wrong. Cree's gift gives her a way in, but it also puts her in the path of people who would prefer those truths stay buried. The mysteries are serious enough to matter, yet the overall tone stays accessible and easy to move through.

Another reason the series works is the balance between the investigations and Cree's personal life. There is romance, but it never takes over the mystery. Instead, it adds warmth and friction while Cree keeps chasing answers from stubborn detectives, unreliable witnesses, and very persistent ghosts.

Readers who enjoy cozy mysteries but want a supernatural wrinkle should feel at home here. Start with Dead Wrong. The case-of-the-book structure is friendly to binge reading, and Cree is the kind of lead who gets easier to root for with every book.
