Series background & context

The Cowboys of Colorado books are frontier romances set in and around Frost Falls, Colorado, where ranches, rail lines, rough roads, and town gossip all matter almost as much as the love stories. Each novel follows a different couple, but the town gives the series its shape. People know one another's business, families overlap, and danger rarely stays neatly outside the front door.

The setting matters.

In A Touch of Frost, Jo Goodman opens the series with a train robbery, a kidnapping, and a rescue that pulls Remington Frost and Phoebe Apple into the same orbit. What starts as a chase story settles into something more intimate at Twin Star Ranch, where family history and betrayal turn out to be just as important as attraction.

A Touch of Flame stays in Frost Falls and shifts the focus to Dr. E. Ridley Woodhouse, a female physician trying to win over a skeptical Western town, and Sheriff Ben Madison, who knows that admiration alone will not keep her safe. Their story gives the series one of its clearest pleasures, capable adults trying to do difficult work while trouble keeps closing in.

Then A Touch of Forever widens the town's world through the railroad and a marriage-of-convenience plot. Lily Salt, a widow who has fought hard for her independence, and Roen Shepard, an engineer carrying his own burdens, fit neatly into the series pattern: practical people, real risk, and emotion that grows by degrees instead of all at once.

Across all three books, the tone stays warm, grounded, and a little suspenseful. These are romances about making a life in a place that is still being built, where the future can arrive by train, by rumor, or by gunfire.
