Court of Midnight and Deception Books in Order

The Court of Midnight and Deception trilogy takes place in Magiford, a modern Midwestern city where supernatural groups live behind a careful layer of secrecy. Fae courts, vampires, wizards, werewolves, and other magical people all have their own rules, alliances, and grudges. Into that world steps Leila, a young woman with human blood and very little interest in becoming important to anyone.

That plan does not last long.

In Crown of Shadows, Leila is pulled into the dangerous politics of the Night Court and finds herself tied to Rigel, its feared assassin. Their arrangement begins as a matter of survival and duty, not romance. Leila has to learn court etiquette, spot the traps hidden inside polite conversations, and figure out which powerful people want to use her, remove her, or both.

Rigel is quiet, lethal, and hard to read. Leila is practical, stubborn, and far more willing to speak her mind than most fae nobles expect. Their uneasy marriage gives the series its emotional center, while assassination attempts and court rivalries keep the pressure on. The relationship develops gradually, with plenty of banter and distrust to work through first.

The Night Court itself has a shadowy fairy-tale feel, but the books are urban fantasy at heart. Magiford has traffic, restaurants, ordinary neighborhoods, and supernatural trouble hiding around every corner. Characters from the earlier Hall of Blood and Mercy trilogy appear here, though Leila and Rigel's story can still be followed on its own.

The stakes grow book by book.

As Leila becomes more established in the Night Court, she must face hostile rulers from other fae courts, threats from within her own household, and questions about what kind of queen she can be. The trilogy is a good fit for readers who enjoy court politics without losing the lighter moments, an underdog heroine, and a slow, sweet romance built on trust.
