Series background & context
The Fairy Tale Enchantress is a companion series to the Timeless Fairy Tales books. It follows Angelique, the powerful mage whose work touches many of the curses, magical disasters, and dangerous bargains scattered across that larger fantasy world. Her story begins before some of the companion novels and overlaps with events seen from other characters' perspectives.
Angelique is afraid of her own magic.
She can control weapons, a gift that makes other students and mages wary of her. Years of criticism leave her expecting rejection, and the magical council is close to sealing her power when Enchanter Evariste intervenes. He takes Angelique on as his apprentice, offering training, patience, and a chance to become more than the frightening ability others think she is.
In Apprentice of Magic, Angelique enters Evariste's unusual apprenticeship while dark magic begins surfacing across the continent. Curse of Magic raises the stakes after Evariste is taken, forcing Angelique to leave the safety of her training and investigate a growing pattern of cursed princes, monstrous threats, and forbidden magic.
The later books, Reign of Magic and Trial of Magic, follow Angelique as the search becomes longer, harder, and more personal. She has to face political obstruction, enemies who understand the darker side of magic, and the fear that using her full strength could hurt the people she wants to protect.
This series is more continuous than many of Shea's fairy-tale novels. Angelique's search for Evariste forms the central arc, and the books benefit from being read in order. The wider Timeless Fairy Tales series adds extra context, since familiar kingdoms and characters appear throughout, but Angelique's emotional journey remains clear.
It is a story about responsibility as much as power.
Readers can expect magical quests, travel across a connected fairy-tale world, loyal friends, and a romance that grows slowly beside the larger fight against old, dangerous magic.
