Series background & context
The Corine Solomon series is an urban fantasy set largely along the Texas-Mexico border, where magic is real, old dangers travel easily, and the past never stays buried for long. Corine is a handler. When she touches an object, she can read its history and sometimes glimpse what may happen next. The ability is useful, painful, and one reason she has spent so much of her life running.
Blue Diablo begins after Corine has made a new life in Mexico City. Her former lover, Chance, finds her because someone important to them has vanished in Laredo. Helping him means returning to a place and a relationship she hoped to leave behind.
Every clue comes with a burn.
The series grows from that missing-person case into a wider story involving demons, ghosts, witchcraft, black magic, family secrets, and supernatural groups with dangerous agendas. Corine's gift makes her essential to the investigations, but it does not make her invulnerable. Her choices often hurt, and the books let her carry those consequences forward.
Chance is a key part of the emotional story, but the series also develops Corine's friendships, family ties, and ability to make decisions outside other people's expectations. The Southwest setting gives the books a specific atmosphere, from border towns and desert roads to communities shaped by both the ordinary and the uncanny.
Read in order: Blue Diablo, Hell Fire, Shady Lady, Devil's Punch, and Agave Kiss. Forbidden Fruit is a companion novella. Expect dark magic, investigation, relationship tension, and a heroine who has to decide when using her power is worth the price.
