Series background & context

Champion is Julius St Clair's superhero series about Connor Matthews, a man born with powers most people can only imagine. Connor is not eager to become a public savior. What he really wants is time with his wife and son, and a life that feels normal.

Normal is not going to last.

In Reluctant Hero, a villain comes to Connor's home and demands his allegiance. The threat forces Connor to stop avoiding the responsibility that comes with his abilities and to become the Champion of the world.

The series mixes family life with superhero stakes. Connor's wife wants stability, while his son sees his father's powers as something exciting and worth training for. That tension gives the opening story a grounded angle: becoming a hero is not just about beating an enemy, it changes what home looks like for everyone involved.

Family Reunion and Broken Promises continue the Champion storyline. The titles point toward the series' interest in relationships and obligations, not only battles. Connor's role as a husband and father remains part of the pressure around his hero work.

Expect a compact, comic-book-inspired adventure with superpowers, villains, action, and a hero who would rather protect his family quietly than stand in the spotlight. The tone is direct and fast-paced, with the emotional stakes tied closely to Connor's loved ones.

Start with Reluctant Hero. The later books follow its lead, so reading them in order is the clearest way to track Connor's move from reluctant family man to the figure others need him to be.
