Series background & context

The Celeste Jones Paranormal Mysteries are lighter than many Julia Derek thrillers, but murder still has a way of showing up. Celeste Jones owns Six-Packs, a struggling gym, and she is not a trained detective. Her unusual partner is Lennie, the resident ghost who needs to help solve five murders before he can earn forgiveness and move on.

It is not the usual gym membership perk.

The series begins with Haunted Hardbodies, when Celeste's new life as a gym owner becomes tangled up with Lennie's unfinished business. She is practical, busy, and not thrilled by the idea of being dragged into crime solving, but the bodies and clues keep coming. Her gym becomes both a workplace and a regular source of suspects.

In Spooky Hardbodies, Celeste and Lennie investigate another murder connected to Six-Packs. Celeste's sister Becky becomes a suspect, which makes the case more urgent and more personal. The books make room for family arguments, gym regulars, and humor alongside the mystery.

Ghostly Hardbodies continues the partnership as Lennie works toward the number of cases he needs to solve. Spirited Hardbodies finds Celeste facing another suspicious death at the gym, after a prestigious member falls from a treadmill. By this point, she understands that helping Lennie means putting herself in the middle of situations she would rather avoid.

The series is a paranormal cozy mystery with a comic streak. The murder plots matter, but so do Celeste's relationships, the everyday hassles of keeping a gym afloat, and Lennie's blunt personality. Their partnership works because neither of them is especially equipped for it, yet both keep showing up when someone needs answers.

Start with Haunted Hardbodies and read in order. Lennie's path toward redemption is an ongoing thread, and Celeste's growing confidence as an amateur sleuth is more satisfying when you see it develop book by book.

Expect ghosts, gym gossip, suspects with motives, and a heroine who would probably prefer a quiet day at Six-Packs.
