Author bio

C.C. Hunter is the pen name of Christie Craig, a writer who has spent years moving between funny romantic suspense and emotional young adult fantasy. She grew up in Alabama, and that Southern storytelling streak still shows up in her books, whether she is writing about supernatural teens, small-town danger, or adults making bad decisions for very human reasons.

Stories came first.

By her own account, she was always a storyteller, even before writing felt easy. She has spoken openly about growing up with dyslexia, which made reading and writing harder when she was young. But the urge to make up stories stuck. She wrote her first novel in 1984, joined writing groups to learn the craft, sold a first book in 1994, and then waited through a long gap before selling again in 2007. That stretch says a lot about her. She kept going.

Under the name Christie Craig, she built a readership with fast, funny romantic suspense. Books like Divorced, Desperate and Delicious, Gotcha!, and Don't Close Your Eyes mix murder plots, sharp banter, protective heroes, and heroines who are usually having a much worse week than they expected. The tone is breezy, but the stakes are real, and the Texas settings give those stories a strong sense of place.

Then came Born at Midnight, the start of the Shadow Falls series, and a new side of her career opened up. That series follows Kylie Galen, a teen who lands at a camp for supernatural kids and has to figure out what she is, who she can trust, and where she belongs. Readers who love Shadow Falls usually talk about the mix of paranormal mystery, romance, and found family. Later books like Reborn kept that world going through Della's point of view.

She also writes YA stories that lean harder into grief, identity, and family secrets. One Foot in the Grave opens The Mortician's Daughter trilogy with ghosts, danger, and a girl who can help the dead move on. This Heart of Mine starts with a heart transplant and turns into a mystery about a boy's death. In Another Life begins when a girl sees her own face on a missing child poster. Even when the setup changes, the emotional core is familiar, people trying to understand what happened to them and what kind of life they want next.

She likes putting ordinary people in very unusual trouble.

Across both names, a few things show up again and again. She writes about belonging, second chances, secrets that refuse to stay buried, and characters who have to build trust after life has already knocked them around. There is often a strong thread of humor, even in darker stories. There are also plenty of ghosts, missing pieces of the past, and relationships that get messy before they get better.

Outside fiction, Craig has also worked as a photojournalist, writing teacher, and speaker. That mix makes sense when you read her work. The books are usually visual, quick-moving, and easy to hear in your head.

Recent author bios place her in Texas with her husband and a house full of rescued animals. When she is not writing, she has said she is often reading, teaching, taking photographs, or spending time with family. It feels like a good fit for an author who has built a career on curiosity, persistence, and knowing how to balance heart with trouble.
