Author bio

Elizabeth Hunter writes fantasy romance, paranormal mystery, and contemporary romance with a strong sense of place. She is an eleven-time USA Today bestselling author, has published more than fifty works of fiction, and has sold more than two million books around the world.

She built that career on her own terms.

Hunter has said that self-publishing was always her first choice, and she launched her career by publishing A Hidden Fire herself. That book introduced readers to Giovanni Vecchio, Beatrice De Novo, vampire politics, rare books, and a mystery that stretches across centuries. It also set the tone for a lot of what came after, stories that mix history, danger, romance, and people trying to make sense of a hidden world.

Her catalog shows how wide her range is. The Elemental books lean into immortal politics, travel, and slow-burning relationships. The Scribe opens the Irin Chronicles with fallen angels, ancient bloodlines, and a globe-spanning fantasy story. Suddenly Psychic takes things in a warmer, funnier direction, following midlife women who discover psychic gifts they never asked for. And First Light moves into portal fantasy, with myths, dragons, and a parallel magical world.

Travel matters in her books, and in her life.

Hunter is based in Central California and Addis Ababa, and she has written about traveling extensively while researching and building her fictional worlds. That helps explain why her stories move so easily from California to Istanbul, Rome, China, Ethiopia, Scotland, and beyond. Even when the characters are surrounded by vampires, fallen angels, or psychic chaos, the settings feel lived in and important to the plot.

What readers often come back for is the balance. Her books can be romantic and funny, but they also care about friendship, family, loyalty, and the cost of power. She returns again and again to outsiders, old wounds, chosen family, and characters who have to decide what kind of life they want, even when the world around them is anything but ordinary.

She also writes contemporary romance as Lizzy Hunter. Under that name, she has published books like Ink, Hooked, and The Genius and the Muse, stories that trade immortals and prophecy for small towns, artists, bookstores, and grown-up love stories with a lighter touch.

These days, writing is her full-time job, and she has said it is also her favorite pastime. On her romance site, she describes herself as a wife, a mom, and the keeper of three canine assistants. It is a good snapshot of her work as a whole, ambitious, busy, warmhearted, and clearly built by someone who really loves telling stories.
