Series background & context
Dark-Hunter is the spine of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s interconnected paranormal universe. At its center are immortal warriors, the Dark-Hunters, who swore themselves to Artemis and now patrol the night, hunting daimons and other predators.
Each book usually follows one pairing, but the cast overlaps a lot. New Orleans, and especially the Sanctuary bar, becomes a crossroads where gods, vampires, shifters, and humans all end up in the same room.
The tone mixes action with sharp banter, plus very wounded heroes who are forced to face what broke them in the first place. Redemption is the through-line, even when the mythology gets wild.
You can start with Fantasy Lover / Julian of Macedon as a doorway into the world, or jump in with Night Pleasures and follow the publication order from there. Later books like Acheron, Styxx, and Stygian hit harder if you’ve met the larger family first.
