Author bio

Candis Terry writes contemporary romance that feels lived in. Her books are full of small towns, stubborn people, close families, and the kind of emotional mess that makes a happy ending feel earned. She was born and raised near the sunny beaches of Southern California, and later traded that beach life for an Idaho farm, a move that fits the warm, grounded feel of her stories.

Writing was not her first plan. In college, a drama teacher nudged her toward the page after an assignment in which she wrote a character biography that earned high marks, and after her acting failed to impress. It was a funny push in the right direction, but it stuck.

It still took a while.

Years later, while up late rocking her newborn daughter, Terry picked up a romance novel and felt something click. She has said that story sparked the urge to write one of her own. She also learned patience early. By her account, it took 22 years to get an editor to say yes, which tells you something useful about her career. She stayed with it.

Before publication, she worked all over the map. She spent time in a Hollywood recording studio, worked as a graphic designer in marketing, and even designed costumes for 1980s heavy metal videos. Later came farm life in Idaho, wayward steers, and family trips into the woods for fresh inspiration. That mix of pop culture, practical work, and country living helps explain why her novels feel both glossy and down to earth.

Her first published series, beginning with Second Chance at the Sugar Shack, introduced readers to the Silverthorne family in Deer Lick, Montana. Those books mix bakery comfort, family grief, hometown reunions, and a light supernatural touch through the unforgettable presence of a meddling dead mother. Any Given Christmas and Somebody Like You kept building that world, and readers who like romance with family history and a little humor found a lot to enjoy there.

That became her lane.

With Anything But Sweet, Terry launched her Sweet, Texas series and leaned even harder into what she does best: big families, wounded heroes, smart heroines, and a town where everybody has an opinion. Books like Sweetest Mistake, Something Sweeter, Sweet Surprise, and Truly Sweet follow connected couples, many linked to the Wilder family, and balance banter with real loss, second chances, and homecoming. Anything But Sweet was a finalist for the National Readers' Choice Awards, a solid sign that the series connected with readers.

She later moved into the Kincade family of A Better Man, Perfect for You, and Tangled Up in Tinsel, the Sunshine Creek Vineyard books. These stories bring in wine country, family secrets, road trips, food, and workplace tension, but they still keep Terry's usual focus on relationships and community. Across all three series, the patterns are clear: small-town settings, emotionally guarded people, loyal families, and animals that often steal a scene or two.

These days, Idaho still seems to be home. Terry has written about farm life, outdoor trips with her family, and the way the landscape helps reset her imagination. That feels right for an author whose books keep returning to the same idea, that love is rarely tidy, but home can still be found.
