The Buckskin series follows Alexander Campbell, a Scottish fugitive who is forced to start over in the American West. It is a two-book mountain-man story about a newcomer learning the rules of the wilderness, then discovering that even hard-earned skill may not protect the people he loves.

In Buckskins and Blood, Campbell kills a man who threatens his family and flees Scotland. He eventually reaches the western mountains, where veteran trappers Caleb Finch and Ethan Sharp find him wandering and teach him how to live in country that has no patience for inexperience.

Learning the trade means learning its dangers.

Campbell has to master travel, trapping, hunting, weather, and the shifting relationships between trappers and Native communities. His training is put to the hardest test when he kills the son of a Blackfoot chief and is captured. The question is no longer whether he can become a mountain man. It is whether his lessons have prepared him to survive the consequences of what he has done.

Buckskin Vengeance moves the story forward after terrible losses. Campbell swears to find the men who killed his trapping partners and stole their furs, horses, and women. He rescues his Indigenous wife and young son and tries to take them home to Nez Perce country, but revenge does not wait politely for a man to put his family in safety.

The two books use the frontier as a place of real pressure rather than an empty stage for action. Rivers, mountains, cold, and long distances complicate every decision. Campbell's enemies are not only armed men. He is also tested by hostile terrain, bad luck, old grudges, and the limits of his own anger.

At its heart, Buckskin is a transformation story. Campbell begins as a man running from one violent act and becomes someone who has to decide what kind of life he wants to build after the running stops. The series balances trapping-country detail with revenge plotting and family stakes.
