Series background & context

Brides of the Sinistral Realms sits in Lidiya Foxglove's lighter, faster paranormal-romance lane. These books are modern on the human side, magical on the demon side, and built around ordinary women discovering that the supernatural world is much stranger, and much more intimate, than they expected.

The first book, Tempted by Demons, starts with Edie, a social-media-heavy heroine who books what she thinks is a quiet retreat and instead lands on an island with three bonded demons looking for a bride. The second, Captured by Dragons, follows Dakota, who accidentally casts a binding spell and gets pulled toward the Sinistral Realm by a trio of dragon-shifting demons. The heroines are different, but the lore connects the books.

That shared lore is the fun of the series.

The demons here are not grim, fire-and-brimstone monsters. Foxglove treats them more like a magical people with their own customs, forms, hierarchies, and mating rules. Some are elemental, some shift into more dangerous bodies, and all of them come with a lot of appetite and a lot of confidence. The Sinistral Realm feels just developed enough to give the romances weight without dragging the books away from their main job, which is pairing human women with very intense supernatural men and seeing how that changes everybody.

The tone stays playful even when the stakes rise. There are curses, binding spells, shadow demons, and old rules that can trap people in lives they did not choose, but the books move quickly and keep the focus on chemistry, adjustment, and the weird practicalities of falling for beings who do not think like humans. Foxglove is especially good at making the heroines feel bemused rather than passive. Even when they are outnumbered, they are not blank slates.

If you want deep political fantasy, this is probably not the first Foxglove series to grab. If you want demon romance with shared worldbuilding, protective monster heroes, and enough continuity to reward reading both books in order, it is a very solid stop. The books can stand alone, but together they give you a better feel for how Foxglove imagines the Sinistral Realm, and why being claimed by demons is never as simple as it sounds.
