Blood and Salt Books in Order

The Blood and Salt series is a young adult supernatural story with horror, romance, and a family mystery at its center. It begins with Ash Larkin, whose mother disappears back into Quivira, Kansas, the strange spiritual commune she escaped years earlier. Ash and her twin brother, Rhys, follow, expecting answers. Instead, they find a place cut off from ordinary life and tied to secrets their mother tried to leave behind.

Quivira is surrounded by cornfields and built on old rituals, old loyalties, and a belief in immortality. Ash starts having visions connected to Katia, an ancestor whose life involved alchemy, murder, loss, and a dangerous blood bond. The more Ash learns about the town's past, the less she can trust the version of her family history she has been given.

Nothing in Quivira is as simple as it first looks.

The first book, Blood and Salt, follows Ash as a major ceremony approaches. She is trying to find her mother and protect Rhys, but she is also drawn to Dane, a boy who is both compelling and off-limits. Their connection brings romance into the story, but it also raises the stakes. Ash has to decide whom to believe while the commune's long-buried plans begin to surface.

Heart of Ash picks up after Ash escapes Quivira, but getting out doesn't end the danger. Dane is under the influence of his ancestor, Coronado, and Rhys is missing. Ash is pulled into the world of wealthy, powerful immortals and travels to Coronado's castle in Spain, where she must work out whether Dane can still be trusted and how far she is willing to go to save the people she loves.

The series moves from rural folk horror to a more Gothic, international setting. Throughout both books, the central tension comes from bloodlines and bargains, the pull of the past, and the question of whether love can survive when power and possession are tangled together. Ash is not a passive observer of any of it. She is constantly pushed to choose between safety, loyalty, and the unsettling power growing inside her.
