Author bio

Belle Calhoune was born in Massachusetts and grew up in a small town there, just across the street from a public library. That detail feels almost too perfect for a novelist, but it explains a lot. Books were part of everyday life early on, and that library helped shape her as a reader long before she ever published a romance.

She was one of five children, and that sense of busy family life shows up all over her fiction. Her books are full of siblings, cousins, longtime neighbors, second chances, and people who know one another's history, even when they wish they did not. She writes small-town stories, but they rarely feel small in an emotional way.

Writing was not her first full-time career. Before she became Belle Calhoune on the page, she worked for years as a federal investigator. Later, after her second daughter was born, she finally gave serious time to the dream she had carried for years, writing romance of her own.

That leap paid off.

Calhoune went on to build a long career in inspirational romance, publishing with Love Inspired and later writing broader small-town romances as well. She is a New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestselling author, and her 2017 novel An Alaskan Christmas was adapted into the 2019 television movie Love, Alaska. She has written more than fifty novels, many of them set in places readers want to move to immediately, snowy Alaska towns, Cape Cod communities, and coastal corners of Maine and Georgia.

A few good entry points show her range. The Way Home introduces the Donahue brothers, a big adoptive family living near Cape Cod. Her Secret Alaskan Family mixes romance with identity secrets and a strong sense of belonging. No Ordinary Christmas leans into festive small-town charm, while Falling for Alaska shows how comfortably she also writes full-length contemporary romance.

Her stories tend to circle back to a few favorite themes. She likes wounded people who are still kind. She likes reunions, hidden histories, foster and adoptive families, widows and widowers learning to hope again, and communities that can be nosy one minute and lifesaving the next. Even when there is suspense or grief in the setup, the emotional center is usually about home, trust, and the slow work of letting yourself be loved.

She also seems to enjoy practical details. Gift shops, diners, bakeries, ranches, libraries, fishing boats, cider companies, and K-9 farms all give her books a lived-in feeling. The faith element is present too, but it usually works as support rather than a speech. Readers who like warmth, family texture, and clean romance with real emotional stakes tend to settle in quickly.

These days she lives in Connecticut with her husband and two daughters. She has mentioned loving summers on Cape Cod, traveling, classic movies, and the simple joy of working from home in pajamas. That last detail might be the most relatable one of all.
