Before Safe Haven is a set of character‑driven novellas that rewind the clock on the main Safe Haven saga. Instead of starting with Mike Fletcher’s dash out of Leeds, these stories ask what a few crucial people were doing in the final days before everything fell apart.

Each book follows one character as rumours harden into reality and the reanimating virus finally reaches the UK. The focus is tight, the timelines are short, and the choices are brutal.

In Lucy, we meet Dr Lucy Blair, an American doctor working at a field hospital outside quarantined Leeds. Every day she sees more cases, more fear, and more pressure from a government scrambling to project control. When the barriers fail, Lucy has to fight her way through a collapsing city, clinging to a thin thread of hope and the stubborn refusal to abandon her patients.

Alex centres on Alex Munro, a man whose city is locked down while official broadcasts insist that everything is under control. He can hear the gunshots that say otherwise. For Alex, family comes first, and his story is about what you are willing to do—and who you are willing to become—when the streets outside your front door turn lethal.

In Mike, we see a younger Mike Fletcher long before Safe Haven becomes a destination. Trapped in a corrupt environment surrounded by violent men, he learns the hard way that doing the right thing often comes with a price. Years later, when the virus hits and Leeds descends into chaos, those lessons shape how he responds to a new, even more terrifying kind of Hell.

Jules follows the girl next door who only wanted to work hard, party hard, and enjoy a future that suddenly no longer exists. Caught in an infested city with a small band of survivors, she becomes an unwilling leader as one disaster after another hits. The novella shows how quick decisions, sarcasm, and sheer stubbornness keep people alive when all the smart money says they should already be dead.
